Everyone is different.<\/span><\/big><\/p>\n<p><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Different terms are used to describe the different ways that individuals identify themselves. There are links below for Young Minds and Stonewall who have more information regarding this.<\/span><\/big><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><big><b>How can sexuality affect a young person\u2019s mental wellbeing? An individual can:<\/b><\/big><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feel different from others.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be labelled with a certain stereotype.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experience discrimination due to their sexuality.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be bullied and treated differently.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feel uncomfortable or unsafe showing affection towards a partner in public.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feel \u2018invisible\u2019 without others around who identify similarly.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suffer due to lack of support from those close and important to them e.g. family.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Suffer due to not being accepted by others including family and friends.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People mislabel their sexuality.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A young person can also be affected if they witness someone being abused or mistreated because of their sexuality or if someone experiences discrimination. Here are some of the ways a young person can be affected:<\/span><\/big><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Afraid to come out and afraid of what others would say, think and how they\u2019d respond.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feel like they need to hide their sexuality.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling under pressure to give a label to their sexuality before being sure themselves.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling confused about their sexuality.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling the need to change their sexuality and be a different person with a different identity.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling self-conscious around others.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Difficulty meeting others with the pressure of feeling the need to disclose their sexuality.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling lonely and isolated.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For any young person feeling anxious or confused about their sexuality or in need of more information, support is available. In school, the Head of Year is a good person to talk to and share any difficult feelings and worries.
