There isn\u2019t always an obvious explanation for feeling like this but some things can cause depression:<\/span><\/big><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Losing someone and having difficulty coping with the loss.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Going through a difficult time without sharing this with someone.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Struggling with school.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experiencing discrimination e.g. racism, sexism.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Money problems within the family.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><big><b>And here are some possible signs of depression:<\/b><\/big><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avoiding social situations.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling empty and numb.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Difficulty concentrating.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feelings of hopelessness or being without hope.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Self-critical.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling guilty or being a burden to others.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Irregular sleep pattern\/Unable to sleep.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No energy.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling tired all of the time.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Low mood, anxious and sad.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lack of appetite or overeating.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Change in weight &#8211; losing weight or gaining weight.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lack of resilience\/Unable to bounce back.<\/span><\/big><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s so, so important that anyone experiencing depression shares how they\u2019re feeling with someone they trust e.g. a family member, friend, teacher. There are also helpline numbers below for anyone who would prefer to speak with someone out of school or use text messaging and webchat.<\/span><\/big><\/p>\n<p><big><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is support available &#8211; the Head of Year can arrange support. They may suggest school-based counselling or the school nurse. It is possible for a young person to access support from both without permission from a parent\/carer. Both provide a safe space for a young person to discuss feelings confidentially. <\/span><b>BUT if there is a concern that the young person is in danger of harming themselves or others then these concerns are shared with the family.
