Identifying and supporting young carers at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni
At Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni we know that some of our pupils are young carers. A young carer is someone under 18 who looks after, unpaid, a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems. They often carry the practical and / or emotional caring responsibilities that an adult would normally carry out. Research suggests that there are at least 800,000 young carers in the UK, but many do not realize that they are a young carer.
We know that young carers may need a little extra support to enjoy and do well at school. At Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni we are committed to ensuring that all pupils who are young carers are identified and supported effectively.
As the Young Carers Leaders Miss H Cotter / Mr R.Jenkins (Yes) Ms S Williams / Mr Ryan Jenkins and Mrs Flanagan (Gwyndy), we have a responsibility to ensure that all young carers are able to enjoy school and make good progress. If you think that your child may be a young carer, or may be affected by any of the issues we have highlighted, please let us know by completing the form below and bringing it to us at the school in a sealed envelope addressed to me. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, or have any other questions, please contact me on 01443 875227 to speak to me personally.
Any information given to us will be treated sensitively and no information will be shared without your knowledge.
Yours sincerely,
Miss H Cotter
